Overview
ratemyaisite.com is an independent project that lets people vote on .ai domain websites using Elo ratings. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, why we collect it, and how it is handled. We keep things simple: we collect only what is needed to run the service and we do not sell your data.
Information We Collect
Votes
When you vote in a matchup, we record which sites were shown, which you chose, and the resulting Elo change. Votes are associated with your session. We do not store your IP address alongside individual votes.
Email address (optional)
If you sign in to unlock extended leaderboard access, we store your email address. Sign-in uses a magic link — we never see or store a password. Your email is used only for authentication and to associate your supporter status with your account.
Session data
We use a secure, server-side session cookie (via NextAuth) to keep you signed in between visits. This cookie contains a session token only — no personal information is stored in the cookie itself.
Server logs
Our hosting infrastructure automatically records standard web server logs (IP address, requested URL, timestamp, HTTP status code). These are retained for a short period for debugging and security purposes and are not used for tracking.
Analytics
We use GoatCounter for page-view analytics. GoatCounter is a privacy-friendly analytics tool that does not use cookies, does not track individuals across sites, and does not collect personal information. Aggregate stats (page views, referrers, country) help us understand how the site is used.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads on parts of the site. Google may use cookies or similar storage technologies to serve, measure, and improve ads, subject to applicable laws and your choices.
For users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, consent choices are handled through Google’s Privacy & messaging flow before personalized advertising is used. You can reopen your ad privacy choices at any time:

Payments
Supporter payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store or handle your payment card details — they go directly to Stripe. When a payment is completed, Stripe notifies us and we update your account status. We store only the fact that a payment was made and your Stripe customer ID.

- To maintain security and investigate abuse
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Data Retention
Vote records and Elo rating data are retained indefinitely as they form the core of the ranking system. Your email address is retained for as long as your account exists. You can request deletion at any time (see below). Server logs are retained for up to 30 days.
Your Rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing us. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are located in the EEA or UK, you have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Cookies
We use a necessary session cookie set by NextAuth when you sign in. We also use Google AdSense, which may set cookies or use similar local storage for ad delivery, fraud prevention, frequency capping, and measurement. Where required, these ad technologies are controlled by consent choices shown to users.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the “last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
